Ford uses Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 5W-30 which has proven fine for moderately aggressive driving. Dealer oil changes cost me $23.60 and I am very pleased with the performance thus far. Full synthetics do offer some added benefits and for those who will switch to full synthetic I recommend Mobil 1. I have the extended warranty and see no issues with the Ford factory fill, so I will continue using Motorcraft.

Since the purchase of my Mustang I have (6) analyized samples. The fill oil was analyized as a base line for future tests. The initial break in oil seemed to be high in Copper (leaching from oil cooler) and positive for fuel, which indicates break in of the piston rings and connecting rod bearings (normal). After 5,000 miles the analysis gave me my first clean bill of health. I will continue to use oil analysis and post my findings for all to see.
