The car, as designed by Ford, does a great job capturing the essence of a classic Mustang. Looking through the 40 Years of Ford book I realized my personal taste reflected that of a 1967 2+2 with a touch of 1970 302 Boss. Since this car is a 2006 and will never replace a classic Mustang, I decided to add some subtle accents that I felt brought back the nostalgia, yet allowed the vehicle to remain unique as a 2006 model. Without modifying the ride height, I wanted to have a lowered look for the vehicle. I chose CDC's aggressive chin spoiler to level the front of the car with the factory side skirts. Having a slightly aggressive look, the rear of the car had to balance the vehicle. I selected the spoiler delete option and added a CDC duck tail spoiler with running horse. To continue the running horse theme, I had the side "GT" badging swapped out with the running horse as well as the rear filler cap. The entire car is free of GT insignias, yet the dual exhaust and 18" Bullitt wheels allow true Mustang enthusiast to decipher what I have done. The rear of the vehicle seemed too high, visually, and I selected a black out panel by Xenon to tighten up the look from the rear. I also purchased some 3M trim for between the tail lights to separate the lights and tie into the look of the panel. The wheels really make the car as the polished Bullitts and the "plastichrome" running horses stand out nicely. The car was simply "too white" and required stripes. The stripes the PSP guys used on their project Cobra just called out to me, so I stole their idea and went with the dual stripes with the smaller outside stripes. To really make the stripes stand out, we cut the stripes short on the hood, roof and rear. This subtle difference is a love it or hate it type of thing, but I'm paying for it, so don't tell me if you don't like it! To give an extra flare, I purchased Grand Design "headrest wraps" which have the running horse embroidered in white to give the car a "pony" look from the front view. The horses, along with the Hurst shifter and racing pedals, MGW power Pony plug, MGW cup holder bezel, SilverHorseRacing billet door handles, and Ford CD holder finish out the interior. The all black dash and lack of added stereo upgrade or IUP make the car feel bare bones and bad a#! from the drivers seat. A C&L cold air intake, MotoBlue underdrive pulleys, CHE suspension links, and Steeda Competition Springs add a bit of bark and bite. |

Ordering a NEW Ford Mustang is very similar to ordering a 1966 Ford Mustang in that Ford allows you to "design" the vehicle through distinct optional components and select packages. You can purchase a completely fun vehicle for a reasonable price if you pay attention to the details you desire and do not get caught up in luxuries you truly will not use. My vehicle stickered for $27,005 plus destination charges. This is with all the options I desired, including polished wheels and leather seats. If you are thinking about purchasing a new vehicle and not sure if the Mustang is a suitable option, there are plenty of places on the internet to get ideas. My only comment is that it is a high horsepower rear drive vehicle with wide tires, which can be driven in the snow, but not without a little "clenching"! |
